The many and various maintenance needs of the church building and the churchyards, at our church in Snape, are met by local volunteers. Over recent years the pool of volunteers to carry out these tasks has reduced to the extent that the remaining members are struggling to cope.
One real area of concern is that of church cleaning. Whilst this would appear to be a simple routine task, it is important for both the maintenance of the interior of the church and for the appearance of the church for services, and to welcome our visitors, many of whom comment on the obvious care which is taken of the church.
There are currently five church cleaners. In the past there were more than twice this number!
Where practicable, cleaners work in pairs. If we could achieve a pool of twelve persons, then each pair would be responsible for cleaning the church during approximately eight weeks spread throughout the year. This really means eight days a year. For main festivals and events — e.g. the Spring Clean, Easter, Christmas, Harvest Festival — everyone is asked to join in.
An annual rota is prepared and available so that future individual planning is possible.
All materials are provided.
