UPDATED ON THURSDAY, 1st APRIL
The "village wheelchair" has now been fitted with a lap-belt, and carries a sign proudly announcing its ownership by the Snape Good Neighbour Scheme. It will be used mainly by the Scheme's Volunteers — but it can also be loaned for a few hours to any residents of Snape village and of/around the Maltings, as explained in more detail below.
If it is required urgently, you may also ring the Good Neighbours' Chair, Maria Norman, direct on ☏ 0797 400 5693. She — as indeed all five Duty Phoneholders — has a key for access to the wheelchair, at any reasonable time.
A copy of the user manual is held in the Good Neighbours' Duty Phoneholder's box.
The 12-page user manual can also be downloaded by clicking here.
PUBLISHED ON MONDAY, 8th MARCH
Snape Good Neighbour Scheme have today taken delivery of a lightweight wheelchair, identified as a need by our experience during the nearly two years of our existence. You should know that, in normal times, we run a well-attended weekly "Meet Up Mondays" session at the "Golden Key". We also would like to be able to take out older residents, with some mobility but a limited range, who could then visit friends or enjoy the beautiful scenery around the village.
We thank our District Councillors, "TJ" Howarth-Culf and Jocelyn Bond, who have kindly financed the wheelchair's purchase out of their own Enabling Community Budget.
The wheelchair will also be freely available at their own risk to whomever within Snape wishes to borrow and make use of it short-term — for example, for doctors' or hospital appointments, whether or not we're assisting. It weighs less than 18kg (40 lb), yet has a capacity of 115kg (18 stone). To book it, just contact us, Snape Good Neighbour Scheme, on ☏ 0754 1754 426 at any time and leave an answerphone message.
A named Volunteer will be responsible for the safety and maintenance of the wheelchair, and should be informed of any problems that arise, on the same number.
Finally, don't forget that we are still offering lifts to Covid vaccination sessions, whether in Saxmundham, Leiston or Woodbridge, under our usual terms — again, just ring us as above.
