Snape will join many other communities, on the 6th June 2024, in commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
We will gather to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The number of those who remain grows fewer every year, but their deeds remain as inspiring as ever. They sailed offshore, flew overhead and stormed the beaches, facing incredible odds with unwavering resolve. Their footsteps are forever etched in History's sands, and their bravery reflects the highest of human courage and determination.
At 8:00am on Thursday 6th June, Paul Richards (Snape Parish Council Chair) will read THE PROCLAMATION on the green/play area in Pryor Close opposite the Glebes — now known officially as 'Queen's Oak Green'.
At 9:15pm that evening, Rev Rob Leveritt (our newly-appointed vicar) will give THE INTERNATIONAL TRIBUTE, followed by LIGHTING OF THE BEACON in the New Churchyard.
Inside the Church, there will be a photographic display covering the history of our local Snape & Farnham Branch of the Royal British Legion, with a brief outline on the history of D-Day. The display will be left in situ until Monday, 17th June.
Please join us at both venues.
