Dear Clerk,
As you may be aware, Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain cycle race takes place in Suffolk on Thursday 7th September. The stage will start and finish in Felixstowe, and travel 192km [119 miles] through Suffolk, visiting many of the County’s towns and villages. The full route details and timings can be found on the Tour of Britain | Stage Five website page.
[Locally, the race is expected to reach
Saxmundham at 14:13, Leiston at 14:22, Snape at 14:35, Tunstall at 14:43.
Delays are expected in Snape from 2:00pm to 3:45pm]
To ensure a safe route for the race, riders and residents, it will be necessary to suspend some on-street parking [including in Saxmundham and Leiston], and some roads will need to be closed. Full details of these, and the timings, can be found at Tour of Britain travel information » East Suffolk Council. There will also be a rolling road-closure in operation across the route — for around 15 minutes before the estimated time of arrival until approximately 10 minutes after the last rider has passed.
All the residents and businesses on the route that will be affected by the on-street parking and road closures will have a letter delivered to them this week, informing them of the disruption, and there will be signage going up this week.
For the safety of the riders, spectators and public, any vehicles left in these areas may have to be removed and a Penalty Charge Notice applied. Please can you help share this information with your local community, so that they are aware and can make arrangements to relocate their vehicle — but also plan their day if they would like to come out and watch the race.
Kind regards, Sarah
