Snape village commemorated the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with an event on the green adjacent to St John’s Church — and thanks to all of those who helped arrange and plan the event, in particular the Church Team. Snape school choir started proceedings with a number of themed songs, and we had a great turnout from the School and parents. The children appreciated the large audience, and the really positive applause and response. < Alan E: image by Doris |
Paul and Kay Readhead did a first-class job of providing additional music and enter-tainment, together with our trusted piper David Gillingwater. David could have made a fortune if he had charged for selfies, as he was in full regalia and much in demand. Alex from the Golden Key provided a quality BBQ on the evening. There were a number of excellent entries for both the adult and children’s fancy dress, and the winners received prizes donated by Mary James from the Aldeburgh book shop. |

The Rev Rob Leveritt made a personal and moving address prior to the Lighting of the Beacon at 9.30pm.
There was a display of original posters (circa WW2) that Gordon McSweeney had lent, and which remain on display in the Church this week, together with a display of work from children at Snape School.
Altogether an enjoyable and social evening, even if the cutting wind meant a few people left early to warm up.
