VJ 75 Commemoration
Saturday 15th August 2020 is the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan), marking both the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War. There will be a National Service of Commemoration, including two minutes' silence at 11:00, at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
In the village, there will be a short ceremony of Remembrance starting at 10:45 at the Snape War Memorial, where wreaths will be laid by a distinguished Burma Star holder, Bob Townsend, and by the grand-daughter of another Burma Star recipient, EJ (“Ted”) Lewis.
All are invited to join this Commemoration whilst observing current guidance on appropriate social distancing and the wearing of face masks.

“And some there be, which have no memorial; who are perished, as though they had never been; and are become as though they had never been born; and their children after them. But these were merciful men, whose righteousness hath not been forgotten. With their seed shall continually remain a good inheritance, and their children are within the covenant. Their seed standeth fast, and their children for their sakes. Their seed shall remain forever, and their glory shall not be blotted out. Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore.”
The Apocrypha, Ecclesiasticus, Chapter XLIV, Verses 9 to 14 (King James Bible)
