film: "East of Ipswich" (U)
"Great Movies in Glemham" (GMG): "EAST OF IPSWICH" (U) plus a short selection from the East Anglian Film Archive.
This is one of GMG's Winter Season of monthly films which may particularly interest local history buffs. "East of Ipswich" is Michael Palin's delightful semi-autobiographical coming-of-age film set in Southwold. Teenager Richard is a reluctant holidaymaker staying with his parents in a guesthouse on England's east coast in the 1950s. Things start to look up when he is befriended by the confident Edwin and the pair meet up with the lovely Julia, a feisty Dutch girl and a group of local bikers. It becomes a holiday experience like no other as Richard finds both love and jazz cafés. GMG are sure that their audience will find many nostalgic resonances.
This relatively short film (of about 75 minutes) will be supported with some rare footage of "Suffolk Past' from the East Anglian Film Archive.
As usual the doors will open at 7:15 and the programme will start at 7:45. This community cinema is open to all readers of "Ebb and Flow". There is no charge, but donations to help with costs are welcomed. Wine, soft drinks and nibbles are always available.
