Choral Evensong
Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity, and fifth Sunday of the month, with The Alde River Singers joined by "5 in a Bar" and Geoff Lavery at the organ. All are welcome, on the Feast of St Michael and All Angels, for Choral Evensong to celebrate the life of Cardinal John Newman, author and translator of several much-loved hymns. Among those sung this evening will be "Praise to the Holiest in the height", with words from "The Dream of Gerontius", so memorably conducted by Geoff at the Maltings last year.
In a special appearance by the singing group "5 in a Bar", they will be joining the Singers in the cheerful anthem "Deus Misereatur" (God be merciful to us and bless us). This was composed by Edward Mammatt (1807-1860), the great-great-grandfather of Snape's June Bird, the group's leader. The group sang this anthem at their acclaimed recital at Snape Church in June, and this will be an opportunity to hear it with a full choir.
